Description

  • Own the technical strategy, architecture, development, and roadmap for the native iOS and Android applications.
  • Lead the design and implementation of features built on Apple HealthKit and the Apple Health app.
  • Integrate Apple Watch data such as activity, heart rate, sleep, and workout metrics into patient-facing features.
  • Build equivalent health data experiences on Android using Health Connect and Wear OS, maintaining feature parity across platforms.
  • Work closely with Product, Design, Clinical, and Data Protection teams to keep features clinically sound and compliant with healthcare data regulations.
  • Own app performance, stability, release management, and the end-to-end App Store and Google Play submission process.
  • Establish engineering best practices across testing, CI/CD, code review, and mobile security.
  • Stay current on Apple and Google platform changes, especially around health, privacy, and wearable APIs, and advise the business on implications.
  • Contribute to the wider technology strategy as a senior member of the engineering leadership team.
  • Collaborate with designers and developers to turn UI/UX into working mobile experiences connected to the backend via APIs.

Requirements

  • Proven experience leading native app development for both iOS and Android, ideally after time as a senior or lead engineer.
  • Hands-on experience building features with Apple HealthKit and integrating with the Apple Health app.
  • Direct experience with Apple Watch health data, including reading and presenting metrics such as heart rate, activity rings, sleep, or workout data.
  • Working knowledge of the Android equivalent stack, including Health Connect and Wear OS.
  • A portfolio of apps that can be tested for UI and functionality.
  • Strong understanding of mobile UI/UX principles for presenting health data clearly and reassuringly.
  • Experience managing the full app lifecycle, including App Store and Google Play submission, review processes, and release management.
  • A track record of building, leading, and growing high-performing engineering teams.
  • Comfort working in a regulated environment with understanding of data protection and patient privacy considerations such as UK GDPR or equivalent.
  • Excellent communication skills with the ability to translate technical decisions for non-technical stakeholders.
  • Experience in healthcare, digital health, or a regulated consumer product environment is desirable.
  • Familiarity with Swift/SwiftUI and Kotlin/Jetpack Compose to a depth sufficient to review architecture and code is desirable.
  • Experience with remote patient monitoring, chronic condition management apps, or similar health-tracking products is desirable.
  • Exposure to clinical safety standards or medical device software regulations such as UKCA/MHRA or IEC 62304 is a strong plus.
  • Experience working alongside clinical teams to validate the safety and accuracy of health-related features is desirable.
