Description

  • Guide the design of Terran R mechanisms, including stage separation, payload deployment, aero control features, and landing gear.
  • Own a full design cycle from conceptualization and trade studies through design, analysis, manufacturing, and testing.
  • Collaborate with structures, avionics, fluids, test, loads, additive, and manufacturing teams to develop integrated hardware solutions.
  • Use additive manufacturing and design freedom to create and improve flight-ready products.
  • Define design criteria and subsystem requirements for mechanism concepts.
  • Review static and dynamic load inputs, material properties, and manufacturing processes.
  • Conduct trade studies on mechanism design concepts and present recommendations to leadership.
  • Support integration of multiple subsystems into the printed primary structure.
  • Help refine designs for manufacturability and speed after first flight.
  • Lead individual projects to completion with on-time and on-budget execution.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in engineering or a related technical discipline.
  • 8+ years of experience in a full-cycle design engineering role, including CAD, analysis, build, and test.
  • Fundamental knowledge of kinematic synthesis, pneumatic/hydraulic actuation, mechatronics, and instrumentation.
  • Fundamental knowledge of structural strength, stability, and fatigue failure modes.
  • Basic knowledge of manufacturing processes, materials, and surface treatments.
  • Proven track record of technical problem-solving and hands-on hardware build experience.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills to lead discussions on complex technical topics.
  • 10+ years of aerospace experience or an advanced engineering degree (preferred).
  • Experience with launch vehicle mechanisms and multi-body dynamics analysis (preferred).
  • Experience in a demanding, fast-paced development environment (preferred).
  • Experience with NX, TeamCenter, Ansys, or Femap, and scripting in Python or MATLAB (preferred).
  • Hands-on experience with fabrication or prototyping such as machining, 3D printing, welding, or woodworking (preferred).
