Description

  • Lead and manage a team of four full-time engineers plus consultants and partners, coordinating day-to-day activities and technical delivery.
  • Design and maintain high-level system architecture diagrams showing relationships between Magento and external systems (ERP, CRM, PIM, WMS).
  • Create detailed data flow diagrams to track customer, order, and inventory data movement and ensure data integrity and security (including PCI considerations).
  • Define state machine and lifecycle diagrams for complex processes (custom order statuses, RMA, multi-source inventory reservations).
  • Architect and review backend PHP modules (Magento service contracts, dependency injection, optimized SQL schemas) to be upgrade-proof and maintainable.
  • Define frontend strategy and architecture—optimize existing Luma/Less stack or lead transition to Headless/PWA (React/Vue).
  • Implement and tune performance strategies (Varnish, Redis, profiling) to meet performance goals (sub-2-second page loads).
  • Author Architecture Decision Records (ADRs), maintain technical debt logs, lead root cause analyses for critical incidents, and own CI/CD and automated testing workflow documentation.
  • Enforce coding standards through deep-dive code reviews, mentor senior and mid-level developers, and oversee security patching and WAF implementation.

Requirements

  • Minimum 6 years of proven managerial and architectural experience in e-commerce technology.
  • Strong expertise with PHP 8.x, MySQL, and Magento 2.4.x (Open Source & Adobe Commerce).
  • Frontend experience with JavaScript (Knockout.js, RequireJS), Less/Sass, and modern frameworks (React or Vue) and/or headless/PWA approaches.
  • Infrastructure and platform experience with Linux (Ubuntu/Debian), Nginx, Redis, Varnish, and Elasticsearch/OpenSearch.
  • Experience with DevOps and tooling: Git, Jenkins or GitHub Actions, Docker/DDEV, and familiarity documenting workflows and CI/CD pipelines.
  • Proficiency with diagramming and visualization tools such as Lucidchart, Miro, Mermaid.js, Draw.io, or Visio.
  • Experience integrating with third-party systems (Avalara AvaTax, Bloomreach, PIMs, ShipStation, Google, Amazon) and payment gateway integrations.
  • Knowledge of PCI compliance, security best practices, and Web Application Firewall (WAF) operations.
  • Preferred: Adobe Certified Professional — Magento Commerce Architect and a BSc in Computer Science or an advanced degree.
  • Preferred: proven track record managing e-commerce platforms and teams supporting $30M+ in annual revenue.
