Description

  • Design and execute primary research on data quality, online sampling methodologies, and the effects of AI on online research.
  • Lead an independent research portfolio and collaborate with the wider sciences team on related projects.
  • Produce publishable research that meets the standards of leading academic journals and industry conferences.
  • Build and manage partnerships with academic institutions and industry collaborators from opportunity identification through research outputs.
  • Represent Prolific at academic conferences and industry events and communicate research findings through external and company channels.
  • Work with the marketing team to increase the reach and impact of research outputs.
  • Help shape the broader sciences agenda, including topics such as representativeness, synthetic data, and methodological innovation.

Requirements

  • PhD in a relevant quantitative field such as psychology, research methodology, computational social science, statistics, economics, social science, or a similar discipline.
  • Strong grounding in online research methods, with experience in at least some of: online sampling methodologies, data quality assessment, non-probability sampling, or synthetic data approaches.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead research projects end to end, with a track record of publications, conference presentations, or equivalent public outputs.
  • Strong quantitative research skills, including experimental design, statistical analysis, and data interpretation.
  • Proficiency in tools such as R, Python, or Qualtrics.
  • Ability to work independently with limited hand-holding and strong intellectual curiosity about the future of online research.
  • High-output, fast-paced working style with a bias toward shipping work rather than waiting for perfect conditions.
  • Ideas-first mindset with the ability to track developments in relevant fields and translate them into research directions.
  • Based in the US East Coast or the UK.
  • Postdoctoral or industry research experience is preferred, with one of these expected if industry experience is limited.
  • Familiarity with online panel platforms and their trade-offs is preferred.
  • Experience working across academic-industry partnerships is preferred.
  • Comfort with on-the-record commentary or media engagement is preferred.
