Description

  • Perform cryopreservation, aliquoting, and other advanced specimen handling tasks for daily incoming biological samples.
  • Train laboratory technicians on procedures and protocols and perform competency assessments for repository personnel.
  • Investigate, review, and resolve data discrepancies with project collaborators and document corrective actions.
  • Reconcile sample and inventory data in BSI, including committing data modifications and using reporting features to identify errors and trends.
  • Receive, unpack, label, scan, store, and inventory biological specimens according to procedures and project requirements.
  • Retrieve, triage, and ship outgoing samples, including dangerous and non-dangerous goods, through commercial or local couriers.
  • Perform quality control checks on outgoing samples and verify sample and paperwork accuracy.
  • Conduct molecular biology tasks such as nucleic acid extraction, quantification, and purity assessment.
  • Prepare reagents, maintain and calibrate laboratory equipment, and support organization of lab workspace and equipment.
  • Monitor freezer, refrigerator, and room temperatures, respond to freezer alarms, and coordinate preventative maintenance and freezer investigations.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • 3+ years of relevant laboratory experience.
  • Experience with aseptic sample handling, including aliquoting.
  • Ability to work independently and make decisions with minimal supervision.
  • Basic laboratory skills and training in aseptic technique.
  • Comfort with Excel and inventory management systems such as BSI.
  • Excellent attention to detail and documentation skills.
  • Ability to work effectively in a group environment and adapt quickly to changing priorities.
  • Ability to lift and carry 31-50 lbs., lift up to 50 lbs. overhead with assistance, and work in cold freezer environments ranging from -20°C to -196°C.
  • Ability to read, write, speak fluently, and comprehend English.
  • Molecular biology experience is preferred.
  • Current knowledge of IATA Shipping Regulations and certification maintenance is preferred.
