Description

  • Define and evolve the fullstack architecture for Growth surfaces, including landing pages, onboarding flows, conversion funnels, and personalization layers.
  • Own backend services, APIs, and data flows that power customer-facing conversion and engagement experiences.
  • Champion a component-driven design system with modular, testable patterns that support experimentation and feature flagging.
  • Drive performance optimization across backend, database, API, and frontend delivery to improve conversion and engagement.
  • Partner with Design, Product, and Marketing to scope experiments and translate requirements into scalable implementations.
  • Translate technical constraints for non-technical stakeholders and document architectural decisions to build alignment.
  • Write and review code daily across backend and frontend, with most time spent on backend services, APIs, and infrastructure.
  • Provide milestone estimates, track progress against schedules, and communicate risks proactively.
  • Mentor engineers on backend best practices, API design, database modeling, and the business context of their work.
  • Lead backend design reviews and establish standards for code quality, performance, and testing coverage.

Requirements

  • Must be currently based in Canada and legally authorized to work in Canada.
  • BS/MS in Computer Science, Engineering, or equivalent experience.
  • 7+ years of software engineering experience, including 4+ years focused on backend development.
  • Deep proficiency in Ruby and/or Python, with strong working knowledge of TypeScript and React.
  • Strong experience with API design, PostgreSQL, and distributed systems.
  • Proficiency with at least one public cloud provider (AWS, Azure, or GCP) and CI/CD pipelines.
  • Proven track record of leading small-to-medium teams to deliver high-quality, customer-facing applications.
  • Clear communication skills and comfort presenting to both technical and business audiences.
  • Experience with A/B testing frameworks and data-driven experimentation in a Growth or conversion-focused environment preferred.
  • Experience integrating AI/ML-powered personalization or recommendation features preferred.
  • Hands-on experience with analytics instrumentation such as PostHog, Segment, or Amplitude preferred.
  • Familiarity with frontend performance optimization, including Core Web Vitals, SSR/ISR, and bundle analysis preferred.
