Description

  • Serve as the primary lead for setting up new end-to-end indirect tax processes in cross-functional projects supporting global growth.
  • Review commercial contracts with new partners and determine the tax implications across applicable jurisdictions.
  • Partner with internal stakeholders to design appropriate indirect tax treatment for complex global transactions.
  • Ensure accurate and timely filing of Canadian indirect tax returns and related remittances.
  • Prepare and manage international indirect tax, Federal Excise Tax, and other tax compliance requirements.
  • Critically evaluate external consultants' advice to ensure tax positions are optimized and deadlines are met.
  • Prepare and own tax account reconciliations and execute tax journal entries.
  • Lead indirect tax audits, desk reviews, and tax authority inquiries as the company's primary representative.
  • Conduct complex research and data analysis to resolve multi-jurisdictional tax issues.
  • Develop and implement global indirect tax policies, procedures, and internal controls aligned with best practices and regulatory expectations.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Taxation, or a related field.
  • CPA designation is required.
  • 8+ years of progressive tax experience, with significant experience in a Big 4 accounting firm or complex global corporate environment.
  • Deep technical expertise in Canadian tax legislation and strong working knowledge of US and international tax frameworks.
  • Experience navigating tax regulations in jurisdictions where business models are not clearly defined.
  • French fluency is an asset.
  • Experience with e-commerce, SaaS, or other fast-scaling tech industries is strongly preferred.
  • Expert-level tax research skills with the ability to translate complex regulations into actionable business strategies.
  • Strong proficiency with MS Word, Excel (including Pivot Tables and V-Lookups), and advanced tax technology.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with persuasion and negotiation skills to influence executive stakeholders.
