Description

  • Define backend and platform architecture for AI-driven product experiences in partnership with Engineering, Product, ML, and UX leaders.
  • Architect scalable end-to-end systems covering APIs, orchestration, logging, evaluation, storage, and safety controls.
  • Solve complex technical challenges involving LLM inference, latency, content quality, and reusable backend capabilities.
  • Design and implement production backend systems, including APIs, orchestration layers, data models, caching, and LLM integrations.
  • Develop shared tooling and evaluation frameworks, including offline pipelines, A/B testing, quality metrics, and observability.
  • Lead complex, ambiguous initiatives across multiple teams by setting technical direction, reviewing designs, and driving alignment.
  • Improve monitoring, alerting, incident response, capacity planning, and overall service health.
  • Mentor engineers and strengthen technical ownership across the organization.
  • Use AI for prototyping, evaluation design, and code generation while verifying accuracy and quality.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, a related field, or equivalent experience.
  • At least 6 years of backend software engineering experience delivering high-impact projects.
  • Experience leading large, ambiguous, cross-functional technical initiatives across one or more teams.
  • Strong Python development skills and experience improving large, maintainable codebases.
  • Experience designing, building, and operating distributed systems at scale, including caching, asynchronous processing, storage, databases, indexing, and queues.
  • Production experience building LLM-powered or ML-backed products, including model integration, prompting, orchestration, evaluation, and latency/cost tradeoffs.
  • Ability to use AI tools effectively while validating the accuracy and quality of AI-assisted work.
  • Demonstrated integrity, ownership, data protection, and accountability for final decisions and deliverables.
  • Ability to work in the office for in-person collaboration 1–2 times per quarter; role may be based anywhere in the country.

  • US base salary range of $177,185–$364,795, plus equity eligibility.
