Description

  • Own the technical roadmap and strategic vision for next-generation recommendation systems.
  • Lead, manage, inspire, and develop a team of machine learning researchers and engineers.
  • Transition machine learning research into production-ready systems that improve core company metrics.
  • Partner with senior leaders to evolve the technical roadmap and support Pinterest’s core mission.
  • Collaborate with Core Engineering, Ads Engineering, Infrastructure, Content, and Data Science teams to prototype, build, and scale solutions.
  • Define the team’s charter and balance research work with foundational embedding development across the company.
  • Partner with leadership to deepen user understanding and shape recommendation strategy.

Requirements

  • 7+ years of combined post-graduate academic and industry experience applying state-of-the-art ML technologies to real-world problems on web-scale data.
  • 3+ years of direct people management experience.
  • Proven track record of delivering high-impact initiatives across multiple product areas.
  • Experience influencing peers and leadership with data-driven insights.
  • Experience mentoring, coaching, and up-leveling software and machine learning engineers.
  • Strong ability to turn ambiguous questions into well-defined projects with clear success metrics.
  • Excellent communication skills with the ability to explain complex technical findings to leadership and product teams.
  • Strong track record of publications in machine learning, AI, data science, or related technical fields.
  • MS/PhD in Computer Science, ML, NLP, Statistics, Information Sciences, or a related field.
  • Track record of publishing at top-tier ML/RecSys conferences such as KDD, RecSys, NeurIPS, or CVPR (preferred).
  • Experience using modern LLM/agentic workflows and generative AI to improve engineering productivity and context extraction (preferred).

Benefits

  • Base salary range of $227,871 to $469,147 USD for US-based applicants.
