Description

  • Design, scale, and optimize GraphQL APIs, gRPC services, and SQL queries across wagering, grading, ledger, compliance, and risk systems.
  • Own complex technical problems by drafting proposals and presenting solutions to leadership and partner teams.
  • Design, architect, and deliver features end-to-end in an agile environment.
  • Identify production bottlenecks and risks, and drive scalability and reliability improvements.
  • Configure and refine Datadog monitoring and alerting for owned systems.
  • Mentor engineers through technical specifications, pairing, and code reviews.
  • Collaborate with stakeholders across business domains to deliver products, operational improvements, and cost efficiencies.
  • Integrate internal, third-party, legacy, and modern systems, including data migrations and translation layers.
  • Support production services through on-call rotations and end-to-end release ownership.

Requirements

  • At least 5 years of software engineering experience.
  • Strong computer science foundation in data structures, distributed systems, algorithms, and software design.
  • Experience operating production systems at scale, including load testing, tracing, and performance analysis.
  • Experience diagnosing CPU, I/O, memory, and latency regressions in high-throughput services.
  • Experience with on-call rotations and owning production release cycles.
  • Experience with modern web frameworks and API development, such as Phoenix, Ruby on Rails, FastAPI, Laravel, or Node.
  • At least 2 years of experience designing and evolving GraphQL schemas for iOS, Android, and web clients.
  • Experience with PostgreSQL or MySQL, Kubernetes, containerized services, testing frameworks, background jobs, and asynchronous messaging systems.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including technical specifications, runbooks, and design documentation.
  • Experience with financial, legal, or accounting systems requiring strong correctness and auditability; Elixir, hexagonal architecture, domain-driven development, open source, agentic tools, startup, or sports experience is preferred.
