Description

  • Build and scale the Legal function from the ground up as Owner’s first full-time legal hire.
  • Own the company’s full legal stack, including corporate, compliance, employment, IP, and litigation matters.
  • Serve as the strategic DRI for sensitive and high-impact issues such as litigation, negotiations, regulatory posture, and complex commercial agreements.
  • Partner with Product and Engineering to ensure new products, pricing models, integrations, and financial infrastructure are designed with compliance and risk mitigation in mind.
  • Design scalable systems and processes for contracting, compliance, employment, corporate governance, privacy, and IP.
  • Lead litigation strategy end-to-end, including outside counsel management, negotiation posture, documentation, and executive communications.
  • Proactively identify legal and operational risk areas and create policies, processes, and internal education to address them.
  • Support strategic partnerships and transactions, board matters, fundraising, corporate governance, and investor communications.
  • Manage and direct outside counsel across corporate, regulatory, product, employment, and litigation matters.
  • Act as a strategic partner to the CEO on sensitive legal negotiations and litigation matters.

Requirements

  • 8–10 years of legal experience.
  • Experience in both law firm and in-house environments, preferred.
  • Experience across commercial, corporate, compliance, IP, employment, and litigation management.
  • Strong builder mentality with experience designing systems, implementing processes, and establishing standards.
  • Proven ability to serve as DRI for mission-critical company priorities.
  • Exceptional judgment and ability to provide strategic guidance in addition to legal answers.
  • Comfort working in fast-moving, ambiguous environments with incomplete information.
  • Ability to partner closely with product and engineering teams and translate product risks into clear decisions.
  • Motivation to scale and lead the Legal team after building foundational systems.
  • Bay Area or NYC location preferred, with openness to remote work in the United States.
