Description

  • Lead up to approximately 10 machine learning engineers and data scientists across several cross-functional teams.
  • Guide the technical direction and delivery outcomes for ML and data-driven product areas.
  • Enable teams to deliver high-quality machine learning capabilities in collaboration with product, design, engineering, and subject matter experts.
  • Support work on satellite imagery and geospatial datasets, balancing experimentation with iteration and ongoing solution improvement.
  • Hire, grow, and develop Data and ML talent.
  • Provide regular 1:1 coaching, feedback, and support to help team members thrive and progress.
  • Partner with Product Managers to make technical decisions that balance short-term delivery with long-term goals.
  • Work with other Product, Design, and Engineering leaders on strategy, technology, and people topics.
  • Improve data and ML practices and introduce ways of working that strengthen collaboration, delivery, and learning.
  • Foster an inclusive, supportive, and caring team culture.

Requirements

  • 8+ years of professional experience building machine learning- or data-driven systems.
  • At least 3 years of experience leading and managing ML or data-focused teams.
  • Experience working in a high-growth scale-up or startup environment.
  • Product-minded approach with the ability to show business impact through technology.
  • Strong technical depth in machine learning, data systems, or applied ML to guide teams and challenge decisions.
  • Experience working with Python-based ML or data workflows and collaborating closely with data scientists.
  • Strong leadership skills with a coaching mindset for supporting engineers and data scientists at all levels.
  • Excellent communication skills and the ability to collaborate effectively in cross-functional environments.
  • Passion for climate and environmental challenges, and for learning about evolving technologies and industry trends.
  • Preferred: engineering background with experience applying software engineering best practices to data and ML systems, including reproducibility, testing, monitoring, and production deployments.
  • Must be based in or able to work from one of the supported time zones/countries in Europe or Eastern North America; supported countries include the United States, the Netherlands, the United Kingdom, Ireland, Estonia, Portugal, France, Sweden, Denmark, Switzerland, and Canada.
