Description

Design and run in-person community events in cities where open AI builders are gathering.
Co-produce events with ecosystem partners to make them feel native to each local community.
Own event logistics, run-of-show, and follow-through to turn one-time events into recurring programs.
Identify culminating moments, venues, and formats that let the community showcase what it has built.
Identify and cultivate partnerships with companies, projects, and organizations across the open AI ecosystem.
Develop and pitch partnership and sponsorship opportunities that create real value for builders and align with Mozilla’s goals.
Structure partnerships that provide resources such as tools, compute, datasets, mentorship, or distribution.
Participate in online developer spaces such as GitHub, Discord, Reddit, and Hacker News to build relationships and gather community signal.
Surface community needs, friction points, and gaps, and feed that input back into Mozilla’s work.
Design and run hackathons and builder programs focused on open AI infrastructure, including post-event continuity.
Coordinate with newsletter, social media, and communications teams to share community activity through Mozilla’s public channels.
Serve as a connector between builders, partners, and Mozilla’s internal CTO team.

Requirements

Experience building or managing a technical community, such as developer relations, open source, or a related field.
Experience working with sponsors or partners and structuring relationships that create value on both sides.
Comfort operating in ambiguous, early-stage programs without an established playbook.
Understanding of how developers think, what they care about, and what makes them disengage.
Genuine interest in open-source AI and community-building around it.
Ability to balance community trust with organizational relationships that make programs possible.
Background in developer relations, open-source community management, technical event production, or ecosystem partnership work is preferred.
Strong judgment, range, and ability to build programs that last beyond a single event or initiative.
Availability for a fixed-term, project-based contractor engagement rather than a permanent employee role.
Final contract terms, including scope, weekly hours, duration, and payment structure, will be determined based on engagement needs and contractor experience.

Budgeted compensation range of $128,000–$243,500 annualized equivalent.
