Description

  • Decompose operational design domain (ODD) requirements into system and subsystem behaviors and interfaces.
  • Convert legal and industry policy narratives into mathematical or specific requirements for autonomy implementation.
  • Define measurable acceptance criteria, key metrics, reward functions, launch criteria, and driving policies for system readiness.
  • Plan and execute evaluation campaigns using structured and large-scale simulation, closed-course testing, and on-road data.
  • Lead, mentor, and grow a high-performing engineering team.
  • Foster a culture of technical excellence, scientific rigor, and data-driven decision-making.
  • Partner with Autonomy, Infrastructure, and other Systems teams to improve safety, comfort, assertiveness, and launch readiness.
  • Use data science techniques and existing infrastructure to analyze problems and drive resolution with development teams.
  • Incorporate learning-based and classical methods to expand performance evaluation capabilities.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree and 7+ years of experience in Systems Engineering, Autonomous Systems, or Robotics, with deep expertise in one and working knowledge of the others.
  • Master’s degree or PhD and 5+ years of experience.
  • 3+ years of experience leading and scaling data-driven evaluation programs for autonomous driving or other safety-critical emerging technologies.
  • Proven track record of growing small, high-performing teams.
  • Demonstrated experience decomposing ODD requirements into vehicle capabilities, driving behavior logic, and measurable acceptance criteria.
  • Strong experience using large-scale simulation, track, and road data to extract actionable insights.
  • Proven ability to build consensus and drive alignment across multidisciplinary teams including Autonomy, Infrastructure, and Operations.
  • Strong foundation in statistical methodology, data science, and scientific rigor.
  • Proficiency in Python, SQL, and data visualization techniques.
  • Excellent communication skills and ability to work independently on ambiguous projects.
  • Master’s degree in Systems Engineering, Autonomous Systems, or Robotics preferred.
  • Familiarity with SOTIF, ISO 26262, UL4600, AVSC behavior competencies, and other industry standards preferred.
  • Experience shaping product roadmaps preferred.
  • Experience using industry benchmarks and human naturalistic driving behaviors to improve autonomous driving preferred.
  • Familiarity with reinforcement learning (RL) preferred.
  • Experience collaborating in agile environments and with global, distributed teams preferred.
  • Experience creating expansive datasets preferred.

  • Hybrid schedule with in-office time in Boston, Pittsburgh, or Las Vegas, or the option to work fully remote.
  • Base salary range of $200,000 to $275,000 USD.
  • Eligibility for additional compensation such as bonus and company equity.
