Description

  • Lead advice on commercial contracts for the UK business, including drafting, negotiating, and supervising external legal contractors.
  • Develop and implement processes, workflows, playbooks, precedents, and new technologies to improve the efficiency and scalability of commercial legal support.
  • Deliver training and share insights to educate internal stakeholders on commercial contracts.
  • Support the delivery of Monzo’s intellectual property strategy, including clearance searches, registrations, and oppositions with external advisers.
  • Act as a subject matter expert on AI-related legal matters, including regulation and contracting for AI.
  • Manage relationships with external legal counsel, alternative legal service providers, and contractors to optimise legal spend.
  • Partner closely with internal teams across marketing, procurement, third party risk, data protection, security, risk and control, and compliance.
  • Advise on a wide range of legal issues across the business, including sponsorships, publishing, outsourcing, and technology implementation.
  • Assess risks, horizon scan for emerging issues, and implement mitigations proactively.

Requirements

  • Around 5+ years of relevant post-qualification experience, ideally across private practice and/or in-house roles at a high-growth technology company, bank, or financial institution.
  • Deep experience in contract law and a strong interest in commercial contracts.
  • Comfort negotiating complex contract terms, including service credits, service levels, termination rights, and liability provisions.
  • Some experience advising on intellectual property matters, particularly copyright and trade marks.
  • Some experience with artificial intelligence, especially legal issues related to generative AI.
  • Familiarity with legal technology, including generative AI systems and contract lifecycle management platforms.
  • Some experience with financial services regulation as it relates to commercial contracts, including material outsourcings, digital operational resilience, and operational continuity.
  • Some experience with the transactional elements of data protection, including data sharing agreements, data processing agreements, and standard contractual clauses.
  • Strong communication, strategic thinking, and problem-solving skills with the ability to balance business and risk perspectives.
  • Willingness to work across a broad range of legal issues in a proactive, resourceful, and collaborative way.
  • Comfort operating at all levels of an organisation and liaising with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Dynamic, entrepreneurial approach and comfort working in a fast-paced, ambiguous environment.
  • Open, curious mindset with an interest in the intersection of banking and technology.
  • Visa sponsorship is available.
