Description

  • Build robust downstream data models from backend services, primarily in BigQuery, to support reporting, machine learning, financial, and regulatory use cases.
  • Optimize the data warehouse by identifying opportunities to reduce complexity and cost.
  • Define and manage data warehouse best practices, including source data payload design, logical data modelling, implementation, metadata, and testing standards.
  • Set standards and ways of working for data across Monzo in collaboration with cross-functional partners.
  • Apply established team standards and best practices across other areas of the business.
  • Investigate and improve data quality within the warehouse by working with colleagues from other disciplines.
  • Contribute to the prioritization of data governance issues.
  • Own and support the pipelines the team contributes to, including participating in occasional out-of-hours on-call support.

Requirements

  • Experience working with cross-functional, fast-moving teams.
  • Strong interest in data modelling, ETL projects, and big data.
  • Comfort with SQL, data modelling, and general data warehousing concepts.
  • Ability to think strategically about business banking data models and the insights they can unlock.
  • Experience working with data streams from financial, transactional, and operational systems.
  • Commitment to continuous improvement and proactive problem-solving.
  • Experience working within a finance function or knowledge of accounting (nice to have).
  • Experience in a highly regulated environment such as finance, gaming, food, or healthcare (nice to have).
  • Knowledge of regulatory reporting and treasury operations in retail banking (nice to have).
  • Exposure to Python, Go, or similar languages (nice to have).
  • Experience with orchestration frameworks such as Airflow or Luigi (nice to have).
  • Experience using dbt, Dataform, or similar tooling (nice to have).
  • Experience with Agile ways of working such as Kanban or Scrum (nice to have).
