Description

  • Lead a small team of Senior ML Scientists in a hands-on technical leadership role.
  • Improve customer and business outcomes through automated decisioning using machine learning and statistical modelling.
  • Drive innovation by identifying new data and machine learning opportunities across borrowing products.
  • Collaborate closely with leaders in Credit Strategy, Product, Model Validation, and Engineering to influence roadmaps and strategic decisions.
  • Work with external data suppliers and industry peers to advance credit industry innovation.
  • Develop and improve toolings, methodologies, and processes that help the team build models faster and more effectively.
  • Champion the quality, efficiency, safety, and scalability of model development and the model portfolio.
  • Apply machine learning expertise to credit risk modelling, utilisation, pricing, collections, and marketing use cases.
  • Collaborate with other modelling teams across Monzo to share best practices and adopt new technologies.

Requirements

  • Excellent technical skills in Python, SQL, and statistics.
  • Extensive knowledge of the credit industry, including products, data, common machine learning applications, and related regulations.
  • Hands-on experience across the full lifecycle of credit risk models, including scoping, data curation, optimisation, performance analysis, deployment, monitoring, and diagnosis.
  • Proven track record of managing complex projects with cross-functional teams and senior stakeholders.
  • Experience mentoring and coaching senior individual contributors.
  • Previous experience managing data and model governance in a regulated business.
  • Result-oriented mindset focused on customer and business impact.
  • Comfort working in a fast-paced environment with frequent context switching.
  • Ability to balance strategic thinking with hands-on technical problem solving.
  • Experience building trust and influencing a diverse range of leaders and stakeholders.
  • Experience in the UK credit or lending environment is strongly relevant.
  • Familiarity with Google Cloud Platform, BigQuery SQL, dbt, PyData, AWS, Python microservices, or Go is beneficial but not required.

Benefits

  • Salary of £100,000 to £160,000 depending on level, plus benefits.
  • Hybrid working from Monzo’s London office or fully remote within the UK with occasional travel to London.
