Description

  • Audit application programming interfaces security controls across REST, GraphQL, and internal APIs.
  • Assess database security controls for systems such as MySQL, PostgreSQL, SQL Server, and Oracle.
  • Evaluate compliance with frameworks and regulations including SOC 2, ISO 27001, PCI DSS, HIPAA, and GDPR.
  • Identify and review risks related to authentication, authorization, rate limiting, input validation, and common API threats.
  • Assess encryption practices for data in transit and at rest, along with secrets management for API keys and database credentials.
  • Review database patching, vulnerability management, hardening, backup, replication, and disaster recovery processes.
  • Evaluate data governance controls including classification, retention, deletion, schema design, logging, monitoring, and audit trails.
  • Review change management for schema and API changes, as well as third-party API integrations and data-sharing agreements.
  • Document audit findings with risk ratings, evidence, and remediation recommendations.
  • Present findings to engineering, security, and data governance stakeholders and track remediation progress.

Requirements

  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in application security, database administration, software engineering, or IT audit.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Cybersecurity, or a related field, or equivalent experience.
  • Strong understanding of RESTful APIs and SQL-based databases.
  • Experience reviewing authentication and authorization mechanisms such as OAuth 2.0, JWT, and API keys.
  • Working knowledge of SQL querying and database security concepts.
  • Experience with API documentation and testing tools such as Postman and Swagger/OpenAPI.
  • Knowledge of database security controls, including roles, grants, and auditing.
  • Familiarity with logging and monitoring solutions.
  • Understanding of encryption and key management concepts.
  • Relevant certifications such as CISA, ACA, CISSP, CISM, CRISC, Microsoft certifications, or Oracle certifications are an added advantage.
