Description

  • Design computational material science problems that challenge a frontier AI model and produce answers verifiable by code.
  • Build tasks that require a specialized tool such as ObsPy, instaseis, pyrocko, MITgcm, flopy/MODFLOW, GeoPandas, or similar packages.
  • Write Python reference solutions and provide any required input files, model definitions, or domain definitions.
  • Set numerical answers and define domain-appropriate tolerances for judging model correctness.
  • Test tasks in batches of parallel attempts and tune difficulty to achieve a target pass rate of roughly 10–30%.
  • Revise scenarios, inversion parameters, and solver tolerances based on model behavior during calibration.
  • Submit calibrated tasks for senior review and incorporate feedback to improve task quality.
  • Work within sealed Linux containers where tasks are executed with pre-installed tools and programmatic grading.
  • Collaborate through the platform workflow from application through qualification, project assignment, task completion, and payment.

Requirements

  • Degree in Material Science or a related field.
  • 2+ years of research, applied, or teaching experience.
  • Python proficiency for writing reference solutions.
  • Strong written English at C1 level or higher.
  • Fluency with, or willingness to independently learn, at least one scriptable package such as ObsPy, instaseis, pyrocko, MITgcm, xmitgcm, flopy/MODFLOW, or GeoPandas.
  • Ability to design problems that genuinely require a specialized solver.
  • Open to part-time, non-permanent project work.
  • No prior experience with the listed tools is required if you can get up to speed independently and start quickly.
