Description

  • Direct OpenMined’s policy and research agenda and align it with engineering goals and organizational priorities.
  • Set and advance research priorities on frontier AI, including data availability, access, and governance.
  • Develop and publicly communicate policy positions on data access, privacy-preserving AI, and related issues.
  • Work closely with engineering leadership to identify public-interest uses for OpenMined’s protocols and networks.
  • Lead and manage members of the policy and research team.
  • Build and maintain relationships with policymakers, civil society organizations, standards bodies, and related networks worldwide.
  • Represent OpenMined in external venues such as policymaker convenings and major AI governance forums.
  • Contribute to organizational strategy and help build OpenMined’s external presence in policy circles.

Requirements

  • Minimum 5 years of experience leading policy and/or research work at the intersection of AI, data governance, and public interest.
  • Minimum 2 years of experience managing a small team.
  • Track record of publishing influential work that has shaped policy debates or public understanding.
  • Existing professional relationships with policymakers, civil society, or standards bodies, with the ability to build similar relationships.
  • Strong technical literacy and comfort engaging with engineering teams on cryptography, machine learning, and PETs.
  • Excellent written communication skills.
  • Comfort working in a startup environment with ambiguity and broad scope.
  • Willingness to travel to the US and other policy hubs about once a month.
  • Experience at a frontier AI lab governance team, AI-focused think tank, regulator, or similar organization is preferred.
