Description

  • Design computational engineering problems that can be verified by code and require a specialized solver or domain-specific simulation tool.
  • Choose an anchor tool such as OpenSeesPy, CalculiX, YADE, bempp-cl, or a similar package and build tasks around its capabilities.
  • Write Python reference solutions and provide any necessary input files, geometry definitions, and supporting assets.
  • Define the correct numerical answer and appropriate domain-specific tolerance for automated grading.
  • Test tasks in batches of parallel model attempts and tune difficulty until the pass rate falls within the target range.
  • Adjust load cases, boundary conditions, and other task parameters to calibrate model difficulty.
  • Review how the model approaches the problem, including where it shortcuts, stalls, or fails to converge.
  • Incorporate feedback from senior reviewers to improve task quality and ensure the final task meets standards.

Requirements

  • Degree in Civil Engineering or a related field.
  • 2+ years of research, applied, or teaching experience.
  • Python proficiency for writing reference solutions.
  • Experience with, or strong willingness to independently learn, at least one scriptable civil engineering package such as OpenSeesPy, CalculiX, YADE, bempp-cl, or similar tools.
  • Ability to design problems that genuinely require a specialized solver.
  • Strong written English at C1 level or higher.
  • Open to part-time, non-permanent project-based work.
  • Willingness to learn new tools independently and ramp up quickly.
