Description

  • Architect strategic data solutions by designing reference architectures, building complex data pipelines and models, and guiding customers through production delivery.
  • Solve high-complexity engineering problems as a hands-on contributor to the Matillion codebase.
  • Set engineering, architecture, and quality standards for the Forward Deployed Engineering function.
  • Scope customer solutions into valuable MVPs and eliminate systemic failure modes before they occur.
  • Advise executive leadership and act as the primary escalation point for business-critical accounts.
  • Train customer champions and create documentation that enables self-sufficient maintenance and extension of solutions.
  • Partner with Sales and pre-sales teams to support high-stakes deals and account expansion.
  • Identify recurring delivery patterns and work with Product and Engineering leadership to turn custom fixes into platform features.
  • Build internal automation tooling with the DevX team and mentor rising Forward Deployed Engineers.

Requirements

  • 8+ years of production-grade software engineering experience in object-oriented languages, preferably Java.
  • Deep expertise in distributed systems, event-driven architectures, Kubernetes, and cloud platforms such as AWS, Azure, or GCP.
  • Strong background in cloud data platforms including Snowflake, Databricks, Amazon Redshift, and Google BigQuery.
  • Solid foundation in data architecture and networking.
  • Proven ability to define reference architectures, enforce code quality, and lead large-scale codebase refactoring.
  • Hands-on experience with production LLMs, RAG, and AI agents is valued.
  • Executive presence and customer empathy for working with VP- and CTO-level stakeholders.
  • Ability to influence technical strategy across teams without direct authority.
  • Track record of delivering technical impact for complex enterprise customers from MVP to production.
  • Strong ownership, bias for action, and the ability to convert emerging technologies into customer value.
