Description

  • Own the lakehouse and streaming ingestion platform that feeds it, including the infrastructure and abstractions other teams rely on.
  • Design and build new platform abstractions, tooling, and paved paths for internal teams to land data, build pipelines, and publish datasets.
  • Set the multi-year technical direction for the data platform and help define the engineering standards for the team.
  • Write production code for the platform’s hardest problems and ship changes directly on live systems.
  • Lead design reviews and create design docs and RFCs for platform changes and major technical decisions.
  • Improve reliability, performance, and developer experience on production infrastructure without disrupting dependent teams.
  • Participate in on-call rotations and contribute to incident response, blameless postmortems, and operational excellence.
  • Partner with security, compliance, and consumer teams to align on platform architecture and delivery.
  • Mentor and grow other engineers, including peers at the same seniority level.

Requirements

  • Typically around 10 years of experience building data platforms or similar infrastructure, with demonstrated work more important than years on paper.
  • Experience designing and operating data platforms, not just building data pipelines.
  • Production experience with modern lakehouse technologies such as Iceberg or Delta on S3.
  • Fluency with surrounding data stack technologies such as AWS data services, Spark, Airflow, Kafka, and IAM boundaries for multi-tenant data access.
  • Strong production-level Python experience in a data-platform context, with credible depth in Go or Java.
  • Experience evolving live infrastructure to improve reliability, performance, and developer experience.
  • Experience leading at least one major platform transition end-to-end, including build-vs-buy decisions, migration design, risk management, and delivery.
  • Ability to influence across platform, security, and consumer teams through design docs, RFCs, and strong technical judgment.
  • Experience growing and mentoring other engineers, including peers at your level.
  • Preferred: payments or fintech context such as PCI-DSS, SOX, or SOC 2.
  • Preferred: CDC tooling experience such as Debezium or Kafka Connect.
  • Preferred: data governance tooling experience such as DataHub, Amundsen, or Collibra.
  • Preferred: public technical writing or open-source contributions to data infrastructure.
