Description

  • Define and deliver well-scoped milestones for projects, and serve as a technical lead when needed.
  • Lead design for small-to-medium components and contribute to design for larger systems.
  • Own a component of the data infrastructure, including its reliability, performance, and developer experience.
  • Identify gaps in the platform and propose plans to address them.
  • Write clear, well-tested, reusable, and adaptable code.
  • Collaborate with team members and cross-functional partners to solve ambiguous, open-ended problems.
  • Help less-experienced engineers grow through guidance and example.
  • Participate in rotational on-call coverage and pager duty.
  • Contribute to quarterly team goals and project delivery.

Requirements

  • 5+ years of software engineering experience with a Bachelor's degree, or 3 years with an advanced degree, or 8+ years of relevant experience in lieu of a degree.
  • Strong proficiency in Python in a production environment.
  • Proficiency with SQL.
  • Experience working with distributed systems.
  • Production experience with Apache Kafka, Apache Spark, and Apache Airflow, or equivalent technologies.
  • Production experience with modern table formats such as Parquet, Hudi, Iceberg, or Delta Lake.
  • Production experience with AWS or another major cloud platform.
  • Experience with infrastructure-as-code tools such as Terraform, CloudFormation, or CDK.
  • Experience monitoring and alerting on production systems.
  • Ability to decompose business problems into multi-component technical solutions.
  • Ability to build correct and maintainable software components.
  • Ability to work with cross-functional stakeholders to clarify ambiguity and surface technical blind spots.
  • Ability to communicate clearly, concisely, and respectfully in writing and verbally for different audiences.
  • Strong focus on quality and meeting deadlines.
  • Preferred experience with payments or the FinTech space.
  • Preferred experience with Apache Iceberg specifically.
  • Preferred experience with CDC tooling such as Debezium or Kafka Connect.
  • Preferred experience with data catalog tooling such as DataHub or equivalent.
  • Preferred experience with Java in addition to Python.
  • Preferred exposure to Kubernetes and container-based workloads.
  • Preferred experience building scalable software platforms.

  • Base salary range of $144,100–$180,100 nationally, $147,100–$183,900 in Premium locations, or $150,200–$187,700 in Premium Plus locations.
