Description

  • Define and deliver well-scoped milestones for projects and serve as a technical lead on some team initiatives.
  • Lead design for small-to-medium components and contribute to design for larger system components.
  • Own a component of the data infrastructure, including reliability, performance, and developer experience.
  • Independently identify gaps in the platform and propose plans to address them.
  • Write clear, well-tested, reusable, and adaptable code.
  • Collaborate with team members and cross-functional partners to solve ambiguous, open-ended problems.
  • Support and mentor less-experienced engineers through guidance and example-setting.
  • Participate in rotational on-call coverage.
  • Work within quarterly goals and deliver projects end to end.

Requirements

  • 5+ years of experience as a software engineer with a Bachelor's degree, or 3 years with an advanced degree, or 8+ years of relevant experience in lieu of a degree.
  • Strong proficiency in Python in a production environment.
  • Proficiency with SQL.
  • Experience working with distributed systems.
  • Production experience with Apache Kafka, Apache Spark, and Apache Airflow or close equivalents.
  • Production experience with modern table formats such as Parquet, Hudi, Iceberg, or Delta Lake.
  • Production experience with AWS or another major cloud platform.
  • Experience with infrastructure-as-code tools such as Terraform, CloudFormation, CDK, or equivalent.
  • Experience monitoring and alerting on production systems.
  • Ability to decompose business problems into solutions involving multiple interacting components.
  • Ability to build correct, maintainable software components.
  • Ability to work with cross-functional stakeholders to clarify ambiguity and identify technical blind spots.
  • Ability to communicate clearly and respectfully in writing and verbally to different audiences.
  • A focus on quality and meeting deadlines.
  • Experience with payments or the FinTech space (nice to have).
  • Experience with Apache Iceberg specifically (nice to have).
  • Experience with CDC tooling such as Debezium or Kafka Connect (nice to have).
  • Experience with data catalog tools such as DataHub or equivalent (nice to have).
  • Experience with Java in addition to Python (nice to have).
  • Exposure to Kubernetes and container-based workloads (nice to have).
  • Experience building scalable software platforms (nice to have).

  • Base salary range of CAD 116,000 to CAD 145,000.
