Description

  • Support the administration, monitoring, and reliability of production database systems.
  • Configure, maintain, back up, and monitor MySQL databases.
  • Investigate and tune problematic queries and improve database performance.
  • Participate in capacity planning and operational readiness reviews.
  • Support database incident response, including investigation, remediation, and follow-up actions.
  • Collaborate with engineering teams on query performance and schema design improvements.
  • Contribute to infrastructure-as-code workflows and database automation.
  • Maintain documentation, runbooks, operational procedures, and knowledge-sharing materials.
  • Work with security and compliance teams to meet customer, regulatory, and vetting requirements.
  • Support secure and reliable public safety deployments alongside UK delivery and customer teams.

Requirements

  • At least 4 years of professional experience administering MySQL or similar relational databases in production environments.
  • Experience supporting cloud-hosted database systems, preferably AWS RDS, Aurora, or Azure database services.
  • Familiarity with database monitoring, alerting, backup, recovery, replication, and performance tuning.
  • Experience troubleshooting database issues in production environments.
  • Comfort working with infrastructure-as-code tools and automated operational workflows.
  • Working understanding of cloud infrastructure, networking, security, and access controls.
  • Ability to collaborate with software engineers to improve query performance and database design.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • High degree of ownership, attention to detail, and operational discipline.
  • Eligibility and willingness to complete UK police vetting requirements, including NPPV3 and, where applicable, SC clearance.
  • Experience with microservices-based architectures is preferred.
  • Experience supporting SaaS platforms, public sector customers, or regulated environments is preferred.
  • Experience with incident management, SLOs, SLAs, or production readiness processes is preferred.
  • Experience contributing to automation, observability, or database reliability improvements is preferred.
