Description

  • Perform remote DBA activities for customers around the world.
  • Automate recurring DBA tasks and operational processes.
  • Set up monitoring and perform health checks and reporting on customer systems.
  • Troubleshoot issues, fix failures, and assist with recoveries.
  • Help design new architectures and implement database best practices.
  • Perform database upgrades and configure and monitor backups.
  • Support SkySQL customers across cloud environments.
  • Provide on-call coverage to help meet customer SLAs.
  • Contribute to MariaDB tools, enhancements, and team methodologies.
  • Participate in community-facing activities such as blogging and social media.

Requirements

  • Experience with MariaDB/MySQL and related tools.
  • Knowledge of SQL query writing and optimization.
  • Knowledge of database design, administration, development, or architecture.
  • Understanding of high availability environments and technologies.
  • Very strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills.
  • Strong customer communication and follow-up skills.
  • Excellent written and spoken English communication skills.
  • Comfortable working remotely with provided equipment.
  • Experience with columnar database platforms (preferred).
  • Experience with database proxying technology (preferred).
  • Experience in a 24x7 support environment (preferred).
  • Proficiency with backup utilities such as mydumper, MariaDB Backup, Xtrabackup, and mysqldump (preferred).
  • Prior support engineer experience with MariaDB, Percona, or MySQL (preferred).
  • Proficiency in scripting languages such as Bash, Python, or Go (preferred).
  • Sysadmin experience with Linux, Windows, or similar systems (preferred).
  • Experience with other database systems such as Oracle, MS SQL Server, Postgres, RDS/Aurora, or MongoDB (preferred).
  • Experience with cloud offerings, automation toolsets, containers such as Kubernetes or Docker, or virtualization software such as Xen, VirtualBox, or VMware (preferred).
  • MariaDB and/or MySQL certifications (preferred).
  • Ability to work a preferred Tuesday-Saturday or Sunday-Thursday shift and provide weekend coverage as needed.
  • Ability to travel internationally for company-related meetings.
