Description

Perform remote DBA work for customers across global environments.
Automate repetitive DBA tasks and improve operational efficiency.
Set up monitoring and perform regular health checks and reporting on customer systems.
Troubleshoot and fix database issues, including performance, durability, and recoveries.
Help design new database architectures and implement best practices.
Configure, monitor, and assist with database backups and restores.
Support SkySQL customers across cloud environments.
Participate in on-call coverage to meet customer SLA requirements.
Contribute to internal tools, enhancements, and process improvements for the Remote DBA team.
Share knowledge through blogging and social media participation.

Requirements

Experience with MariaDB/MySQL and related tools.
Knowledge of SQL query writing and optimization.
Knowledge of database design, administration, development, or architecture.
Understanding of high availability environments and technologies.
Strong troubleshooting, problem-solving, and customer communication skills.
Ability to work remotely and autonomously; prior remote work experience is preferred.
Excellent written and spoken English communication skills.
Experience with columnar database platforms.
Previous use of database proxying technology.
Preferred shift coverage on Tuesday-Saturday or Sunday-Thursday, with weekend coverage as needed.
Willingness to be on call and to travel internationally for company-related meetings.
Bonus experience: 24x7 support environments, backup utilities such as mydumper, MariaDB Backup, Xtrabackup, and mysqldump, scripting languages such as Bash, Python, or Go, Linux or Windows sysadmin work, cloud offerings, automation toolsets, containers such as Kubernetes or Docker, MariaDB/MySQL monitoring software, and MariaDB/MySQL certifications.
Bonus experience: prior support engineering experience with MariaDB, Percona, or MySQL, open source contributions in the MariaDB/MySQL ecosystem, and experience with related products such as MaxScale, ColumnStore, Cluster/Galera, or Clustrix.
Bonus experience: working knowledge of other database systems such as Oracle, MS SQL Server, Postgres, RDS/Aurora, or MongoDB, and experience with virtualization software such as Xen, VirtualBox, or VMware.
