Description

  • Lead, coach, and develop a team of 5-10 ML Engineers, including hiring, career development, and performance management.
  • Build operational frameworks that improve delivery quality, efficiency, and team accountability.
  • Partner with Tech Leads on technical direction, trade-offs, and long-term system design.
  • Guide engineers through ambiguous projects, technical decisions, and high-stakes conversations.
  • Foster a culture of experimentation, learning, and data-informed iteration.
  • Collaborate with Product, UX, and engineering leadership to align roadmap priorities with team capacity and user needs.
  • Improve collaboration and communication across a distributed team spanning Canada and Sweden.
  • Raise standards for AI/ML engineering practices and evaluate when AI-assisted development tools add value or create risk.

Requirements

  • 3+ years managing or leading engineering teams, with demonstrated success in building healthy teams and delivering results.
  • Hands-on experience building applied AI/ML systems.
  • Strong coaching mindset with experience giving direct, actionable feedback to Senior and Staff-level engineers.
  • Sound technical judgment with the ability to navigate complex trade-offs and support adaptable solutions.
  • Strong cross-functional communication skills with engineers, PMs, UX, and leadership.
  • Experience working effectively across distributed teams.
  • Familiarity with AI-assisted development tools and how to integrate them into engineering workflows.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or a related technical field, or equivalent practical experience.
  • Nice to have: Experience in high-stakes domains such as security, healthcare, or legal.
  • Nice to have: Experience with AI/ML in constrained deployment models such as on-prem, edge, or air-gapped environments.
  • Nice to have: Experience building and operating scalable, distributed systems.
  • Nice to have: Familiarity with MLOps tooling such as experiment tracking, model versioning, and CI/CD for ML.
