Description

  • Own the end-to-end architecture for MLS and property data across streaming and batch pipelines, microservices, storage layers, and APIs.
  • Design and evolve Kafka-based event-driven data flows for listing ingestion, enrichment, recommendations, and AI use cases.
  • Design, build, and operate backend services in Python or Java that expose listing, property, and recommendation data through APIs and microservices.
  • Implement scalable data processing with Spark or Flink on EMR or similar infrastructure, orchestrated with Airflow and deployed on Kubernetes where applicable.
  • Build and maintain high-volume streaming and batch pipelines that ingest, normalize, and enrich MLS and third-party data.
  • Ensure data quality, lineage, and governance are embedded into the platform to support analytics, AI/ML, and customer-facing features.
  • Collaborate with ML/AI engineers to design and scale AI agents for feed onboarding, discrepancy triage, and other operational workflows.
  • Define and implement evaluation, logging, and feedback loops to continuously improve AI-driven systems and data products.
  • Collaborate with Product, Engineering, and Operations to shape the roadmap for the data platform, MLS capabilities, and AI-powered experiences.
  • Mentor and unblock other engineers through pairing, reviews, and design guidance while raising the overall technical bar.

Requirements

  • 10+ years of professional software engineering experience, including ownership of production systems end to end.
  • Significant experience with data-intensive or distributed systems at scale, with high volume and high availability requirements.
  • Prior experience in a senior, staff, or lead role influencing architecture, standards, and technical direction.
  • Strong programming skills in Python or Java, with experience building microservices and REST or GraphQL APIs.
  • Hands-on experience with Apache Kafka or similar event/messaging platforms such as Kinesis or Pub/Sub.
  • Deep experience with Spark or Flink for large-scale streaming and batch data processing, preferably on EMR or similar compute.
  • Experience with Airflow or equivalent orchestration tools and Kubernetes for running data or compute workloads.
  • Strong SQL and data modeling skills, with solid understanding of ETL/ELT patterns, data warehousing concepts, and performance tuning.
  • Experience building on AWS, preferred, or another major cloud provider with awareness of cost, reliability, and security tradeoffs.
  • Experience building or integrating AI agents into production workflows, with familiarity in frameworks such as PydanticAI, LangGraph, or Claude Code.
  • Comfort working with logs, telemetry, and evaluation metrics to monitor and improve AI-driven systems.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead technical initiatives across teams from idea to production.
  • Track record of mentoring engineers and improving code quality, testing, and design practices.
  • Strong communication skills for explaining complex technical decisions to technical and non-technical stakeholders.
  • Customer and product mindset focused on improving end-user and client experience.
  • Preferred: experience with Iceberg, Hive, Snowflake, Athena, Redshift, dbt, data quality or observability tools, or vector databases such as LanceDB, Pinecone, or Elasticsearch/OpenSearch.
  • Preferred: background in real estate, marketplaces, or other domains where data quality and freshness are highly visible to customers.
  • Preferred: experience in a startup or high-growth environment building or evolving a data platform.
