Description

  • Own day-to-day financial operations, including payroll, invoicing, accounts payable, accounts receivable, bookkeeping, VAT, and tax.
  • Ensure financial, corporate, and regulatory compliance, including statutory reporting, UK and US requirements, audits, tax planning, and financial risk management.
  • Lead cash flow, working capital, and treasury management to maintain liquidity and support operations and investment.
  • Manage outsourced bookkeeping partners and external advisors as needed.
  • Improve finance processes, systems, and controls to strengthen the quality, speed, and usefulness of financial information.
  • Own financial planning, budgeting, forecasting, and analysis to support strategic planning and growth decisions.
  • Deliver monthly management accounts, board reporting, financial modelling, and scenario planning.
  • Act as a finance business partner to senior leaders and departmental heads, translating financial data into clear insights and supporting cost control.
  • Support fundraising and capital strategy with financial modelling, investor due diligence, investor reporting, and debt or equity financing.
  • Work closely with the CEO and COO on fundraising and investment-related activity.

Requirements

  • Senior finance experience in a role such as Finance Lead or Head of Finance with end-to-end ownership in a growing start-up or scale-up, ideally at Series A or B stage.
  • Experience supporting a B2B business, ideally with exposure to different revenue models.
  • Strong experience in financial planning, forecasting, management reporting, budgeting, and cash flow management.
  • Proven ability to define, analyze, and improve profitability, including margins, unit economics, and financial performance across the business.
  • Track record of producing high-quality board-level reporting with clear narrative, insight, and recommendations.
  • Experience as finance leader for a PE/VC portfolio company.
  • Exposure to fundraising, investor reporting, and financial or customer due diligence.
  • Professional accounting qualification such as ACA, ACCA, or CIMA, or equivalent experience.
  • Desirable experience improving finance processes and reporting in a scaling business.
  • Desirable background in healthcare, life sciences, or adjacent B2B sectors.
  • Desirable experience presenting to boards and investors.
  • Highly collaborative, with strong relationship-building and cross-functional working skills.
  • Excellent communicator who can explain financial concepts clearly to non-financial colleagues.
  • Credible and confident with senior stakeholders, including the Board and investors, and able to challenge constructively.
  • Comfortable balancing strategic leadership with hands-on execution in a lean environment.
  • Detail-oriented, pragmatic, resilient, and able to manage competing priorities.
  • Able to introduce structure, controls, and discipline without unnecessary complexity.
