Description

  • Own the Architecture Package deliverable covering platform architecture, integration patterns, and multi-region design.
  • Lead multi-region architecture across AWS GovCloud primary and failover regions.
  • Define workload tiers and own the Multi-Region Enablement Plan.
  • Chair the Change Control Board and review, approve, or reject architectural changes.
  • Own data architecture across platform data services, including replication strategy, consistency models, and latency management.
  • Define technical direction for Istio, EKS cluster architecture, Kubernetes namespace governance, and AWS GovCloud landing zone configuration.
  • Present architecture briefings to VA health leadership and serve as the technical spokesperson for architecture discussions.
  • Mentor the DevSecOps Director and Maintenance Technical Director on platform engineering decisions.

Requirements

  • 10+ years of federal cloud architecture experience.
  • Demonstrated ownership of large-scale production architecture on AWS GovCloud.
  • Deep expertise in EKS at enterprise scale and AWS managed services including RDS, MSK, ElastiCache, DocumentDB, S3, and Kinesis.
  • Expert-level experience with Istio, HashiCorp Vault, Consul, and multi-VPC networking in AWS GovCloud.
  • Experience designing multi-region active/passive failover with RPO/RTO SLA accountability.
  • Familiarity with VistA RPC, Oracle Health integration, and VA Enterprise integration patterns including VA Profile, MPI, VADIR, and eCMS.
  • Strong written communication skills with the ability to author Architecture Packages and present to non-technical leadership.
  • Active Department of Veterans Affairs PIV credentials.
  • Preferred: AWS Solutions Architect Professional certification.
  • Preferred: AWS Advanced Networking Specialty certification.
  • Preferred: Certified Kubernetes Administrator (CKA).
  • Preferred: HashiCorp certifications.
  • Preferred: Prior HAPS, VAEC, or VA Health DevSecOps platform experience.
  • Preferred: Kafka/MSK scheduling event bus and VistA integration experience.
  • Applicants must be a US citizen and have physically resided in the United States for at least 3 years.
  • Selected applicants will be subject to a security investigation and may need access to protected and/or classified information.
