Description

  • Build and operate the core engine that powers automated lifecycle programs at Klaviyo.
  • Design and ship robust backend solutions that process billions of events and millions of messages reliably.
  • Tackle complex engineering problems and evaluate multiple technical and business trade-offs.
  • Contribute to team discussions and help shape important technology decisions.
  • Develop well-designed, thoroughly tested code with a focus on reliability and performance.
  • Own core execution logic for flow triggering, filtering, branching, and action execution.
  • Manage scheduling and orchestration for delays and millions of scheduled actions per day.
  • Maintain execution data stores and pipelines that support high-scale backend operations.
  • Collaborate with engineering teams across the organization on cross-functional projects.
  • Participate in code reviews and lead strong testing practices, including unit, integration, and load testing.

Requirements

  • 3+ years of experience in software engineering with a focus on backend systems and high-volume data processing.
  • Strong experience building services and APIs with Python and Django, or similar frameworks.
  • Experience with distributed systems and asynchronous task queues such as Celery, RabbitMQ, or Pulsar.
  • Understanding of eventual consistency and distributed state challenges.
  • Experience with relational databases such as MySQL or Aurora.
  • Experience with high-scale NoSQL stores such as Redis or DynamoDB.
  • Commitment to clean, maintainable code and robust testing practices.
  • Experience working in fast-paced environments and collaborating across engineering teams.
  • Experience using AI coding tools such as Claude Code or Cursor.
  • Preferred experience with event-driven architecture and streaming technologies such as Pulsar or Kafka.
  • Preferred experience with Infrastructure as Code using Terraform and container orchestration with Kubernetes.
  • Preferred experience creating technical designs for complex features or system migrations.
  • Preferred background building platforms that support other engineering teams.
  • Preferred experience building cloud-native solutions, ideally on AWS.

Benefits

  • Base salary range of $116,000 to $174,000 USD for US locations.
  • Potential participation in the company’s annual cash bonus plan.
  • Equity may be included as part of total compensation.
  • Sign-on payments may be included.

  • Flexible location-based compensation details discussed with the recruiter during hiring.
  • Role may require up to 10% travel, coordinated in advance.
