Description

  • Define the technical strategy and architectural roadmap for the Klaviyo backend and Dev Infrastructure domain.
  • Own the architecture, health, and dependencies of the Klaviyo codebase with a focus on backend systems.
  • Lead dependency management efforts, including analysis, optimization, risk assessment, and contingency planning for backend and third-party dependencies.
  • Oversee planning and rollout of major software releases and platform upgrades from design through production deployment.
  • Drive improvements in developer productivity by reducing toil and improving cycle-time metrics such as PR CI speed, code review pickup time, and commit velocity.
  • Act as a technical expert for diagnosing and resolving complex performance, scalability, and reliability issues.
  • Implement proactive monitoring and telemetry to detect and prevent platform issues before they become critical incidents.
  • Mentor senior and lead engineers and support skill development within the organization.
  • Collaborate with product managers, security teams, hardware engineers, and other stakeholders to align requirements and resolve conflicts.
  • Evaluate emerging technologies, tools, and practices to improve systems and internal processes.

Requirements

  • 12 years of experience in software development.
  • Strong knowledge of computer science fundamentals and domain-driven design.
  • Extensive expertise in architectural patterns, especially within distributed systems.
  • BA or BS degree in Computer Science, a related field, or equivalent experience.
  • Deep expertise in programming languages such as Go and Python.
  • Experience with cloud platforms such as AWS, Azure, or GCP.
  • Experience with containerization technologies such as Kubernetes and Docker.
  • Experience with Infrastructure as Code tools such as Terraform.
  • Demonstrated experience contributing to product and platform vision and defining strategy for long-term organizational needs.
  • Strong understanding of software architecture, design patterns, and system integration across multiple teams.
  • Exceptional problem-solving, analytical, leadership, and communication skills.
  • Experience experimenting with AI in work or personal projects and interest in learning and using AI tools responsibly.
  • Preferred experience with Pants, FastAPI, Django, React, Terraform, and Buildkite.
  • Preferred background in performance optimization.
  • Preferred familiarity with complex data management for testing, including large datasets and production-like data replication.

Benefits

  • Base salary range of $216,000 to $324,000 USD for U.S. locations.
