Description

  • Debug and optimize end-to-end network performance, including NIC tuning, congestion control, packet pacing, and queueing disciplines.
  • Analyze network traffic with tcpdump, Wireshark, and custom tooling to understand protocol behavior under load.
  • Work with protocols beyond TCP and UDP when needed, including ICMP, IGMP, and multicast.
  • Investigate Linux kernel and networking stack internals when debugging requires it.
  • Build bespoke tooling and observability solutions when existing tools are insufficient.
  • Use performance counters, perf, eBPF, and flamegraphs to identify bottlenecks across CPU, memory, and scheduling.
  • Reason about hardware-level performance issues such as cacheline contention, branch misprediction, NUMA effects, memory ordering, IRQ affinity, paging, and TLB behavior.
  • Write production systems code, primarily in Rust, and contribute to infrastructure, tooling, and occasionally upstream projects.
  • Diagnose ambiguous issues spanning application code, operating system behavior, and hardware interactions.

Requirements

  • 10+ years of experience in systems programming, networking, or performance-critical infrastructure.
  • Deep Linux expertise, including kernel behavior, networking internals, and performance tuning.
  • Proficiency with packet analysis and network debugging tools such as tcpdump and Wireshark.
  • Experience with performance profiling and tracing tools such as perf, eBPF, and flamegraphs.
  • Strong programming fundamentals; depth matters more than language.
  • Track record of diagnosing complex issues across application, OS, and hardware layers.
  • Clear, direct communication.
  • Strong low-level systems programming background, with Rust experience preferred but C or C++ equally relevant.
  • Experience in latency-sensitive domains such as HFT, real-time systems, low-latency networking, kernel-adjacent infrastructure, or high-performance distributed systems is a strong plus.
  • Experience with custom memory allocators, memory subsystem optimization, virtualization internals, passthrough networking, eBPF, driver debugging, or custom kernel modules is a strong plus.
