Description

  • Develop fault-tolerant quantum solutions with significant scientific and commercial impact across multiple industries.
  • Work on a client-facing team to identify, define, and solve real-world problems using IonQ trapped-ion quantum computers.
  • Compare fault-tolerant quantum algorithms with NISQ and classical HPC approaches and communicate trade-offs, scaling behavior, and cross-over points.
  • Develop core IP, resource models, implementation libraries, long-term roadmaps, and end-to-end workflows.
  • Discover foundational IP and publish results in peer-reviewed journals and conferences.
  • Collaborate with internal and external customers and partners on new ideas and multi-year initiatives.
  • Represent IonQ at high-visibility technical conferences.

Requirements

  • 2+ years of professional experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Documented expertise in fault-tolerant quantum computing algorithms.
  • Clear connection between technical work and end-customer value at very large scale (e.g., millions of qubits, billions of gates).
  • Ability to develop tools such as libraries, simulators, and compilers, plus metrics such as costing and resource estimation.
  • Strong optimization focus on algorithm performance, including accuracy and time-to-solution.
  • Proven track record shown through invited talks, repositories, licenses, publications, and/or patents.
  • Experience working on problems of real-world interest as part of a team.
  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills.
  • Ph.D. in computer science, math, engineering, physics, or a related field (preferred).
  • Experience supporting writing and executing government contracts (preferred).
  • Experience with C++, Python, and Qiskit or a similar quantum SDK (preferred).
  • Experience benchmarking quantum algorithms using varied metrics (preferred).
  • Experience working directly with customers to define and deliver solutions (preferred).
  • Experience developing hybrid end-to-end solutions in a production or cloud environment; CI/CD knowledge is a plus.
