Description

  • Lead, coach, and grow a team of approximately 12 engineers across multiple workstreams.
  • Set the technical direction for multi-tenancy, data isolation, configuration-driven release management, and per-retailer extensibility.
  • Drive consolidation of bespoke retailer-vertical services onto unified Instacart platform rails.
  • Partner with ML and Data Engineering on enterprise data platform compliance and per-retailer model training needs.
  • Deliver self-service tooling such as sandbox environments, configuration interfaces, and retailer-facing extensibility.
  • Represent technical and product trade-offs across multiple engineering and product organizations.
  • Broker resourcing decisions and clarify ambiguous scope to keep investment aligned with committed work.
  • Foster a culture of ownership, accountability, and continuous improvement.
  • Lead architectural transitions such as consolidation, replatforming, and data isolation within a live business environment.

Requirements

  • 8+ years of software engineering experience, including 3+ years managing engineering teams in a platform or infrastructure context.
  • Experience leading teams of 10+ engineers, including hiring, performance management, and career development.
  • Demonstrated success in ambiguous, high-growth environments with evolving partner roadmaps and integration commitments.
  • Proven cross-functional leadership across multiple engineering and product organizations, including structured escalation to unblock initiatives.
  • Experience leading multi-team architectural transitions such as consolidation, replatforming, multi-tenancy, or data isolation.
  • Technical proficiency in distributed systems, API/SDK design, and cloud infrastructure such as AWS or GCP.
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or a related technical field, or equivalent practical experience.
  • Direct domain experience in commerce platforms, omnichannel retail, OMS, POS, catering systems, or connected-store / in-store technology is preferred.
  • Track record of building multi-tenant platforms with per-tenant configuration, isolation, and extensibility requirements is preferred.
  • Experience partnering with ML and Data Engineering teams on data platform compliance, model training infrastructure, or data isolation initiatives is preferred.
  • Experience leading other engineering managers and growing two-layer organizations is preferred.

  • Base salary range of $265,000–$279,500 USD in CA, NY, CT, and NJ; $254,000–$268,000 USD in WA; $243,000–$256,500 USD in several other listed states; and $221,000–$233,000 USD in all other states.
