Description

  • Grow, develop, manage, and lead a multidisciplinary team of senior software and systems engineers focused on privacy.
  • Advise executive and senior technical and business leadership on Instacart’s privacy vision through written and in-person communication.
  • Partner with infrastructure and application teams to ensure products are built and delivered with security and privacy in mind.
  • Implement policies and procedures that protect customer and partner data.
  • Develop metrics and reports on top privacy and security risks and the health of the organization.
  • Own privacy engineering projects that improve access request and deletion processing, PII handling, and third-party marketing tracker management.
  • Guide the creation of shared controls, data lifecycle management tooling, and other privacy-enhancing technologies used by product teams.

Requirements

  • 12+ years of work experience in privacy engineering delivering holistic privacy engineering solutions and building privacy into products.
  • 5+ years of leadership experience directly managing an organization of 5+ senior-level individual contributors.
  • Proven ability to recruit, hire, upskill, lead, and scale teams.
  • Experience handling performance management, customer negotiations, and privacy-centric decision-making with partners.
  • Strong knowledge of distributed systems and cloud technology.
  • Ability to assess cost-benefit trade-offs of privacy initiatives in the context of business risk mitigation and operational objectives.
  • Bachelor’s and/or Master’s degree in Computer Science or a related science or engineering field such as Mathematics or Engineering.
  • Working knowledge of privacy regulations such as GDPR, CCPA, and CPRA.
  • Real-world experience implementing privacy, trust, or security measures that have shipped in a consumer product or service.

  • Eligible for a new hire equity grant and annual refresh grants.
  • Canadian base salary range of $229,000 to $241,500 CAD.
  • Hiring currently limited to Ontario, Alberta, British Columbia, and Nova Scotia.
