Description

  • Independently review, analyze, and resolve assigned front-end claim holds prior to submission.
  • Assign ICD-10-CM and CPT codes with appropriate modifiers for professional fee services.
  • Review medical records and supporting documentation to determine correct codes for diagnoses and services.
  • Ensure diagnosis codes meet local and national medical necessity guidelines.
  • Use internal coding resources, payer guidelines, and reference materials to produce accurate, compliant coding.
  • Monitor and uphold HIPAA privacy and confidentiality standards when handling protected health information.
  • Maintain current knowledge of coding laws, regulations, payer policies, and industry guidance.
  • Collaborate with revenue cycle partners to reduce claim rejections and support clean claim rates.
  • Participate in department meetings, one-on-ones, and mentorship sessions with the Coding Team Lead.
  • Escalate client trends and coding questions to the Coding Team Lead and complete required CEUs.

Requirements

  • Current AAPC or AHIMA certification held for a minimum of 3 years.
  • 3+ years of professional coding experience.
  • Strong working knowledge of CPT, ICD-10-CM, medical terminology, anatomy and physiology, and Medicare reimbursement guidelines.
  • Familiarity with proper English grammar, usage, and professional documentation standards.
  • Ability to research, analyze data, draw logical conclusions, and resolve coding or documentation issues.
  • Ability to read, interpret, and apply policies, procedures, laws, and regulations.
  • Ability to accurately interpret medical documentation, clinical terminology, and documented procedures.
  • Demonstrated ability to exercise independent judgment in coding and claim resolution.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills for reporting, clarification, and collaboration with physicians and staff.
  • Strong commitment to confidentiality and prior experience in a medical billing environment with strict HIPAA compliance.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite, including Word, Excel, Outlook, and Teams.
