Description

  • Serve as primary legal partner to Partnerships and Fundraising, People, Finance, Communications, Technology, Product, Grants Management, and public affairs teams.
  • Structure, draft, and negotiate corporate partnerships, funding arrangements, technology and vendor agreements, and strategic transactions.
  • Advise on corporate, commercial, employment, privacy, nonprofit, fundraising, and operational matters.
  • Build legal templates, playbooks, and repeatable processes for recurring work.
  • Advise on significant and non-standard gifts, planned giving, donor restrictions, securities, cryptocurrency, and other non-cash contributions.
  • Support charitable solicitation, sponsorships, cause marketing, lobbying, advocacy, and political-activity compliance.
  • Lead legal strategy for Data Partnerships, MNO data, remote enablement, and other cross-functional initiatives.
  • Draft and negotiate NDAs, data-sharing agreements, MoUs, and related arrangements with MNOs, governments, and data holders.
  • Advise on privacy, consent, telecommunications regulation, data sharing, and responsible data use.
  • Coordinate specialist and local counsel while strengthening standards and tools across the global Legal team.

Requirements

  • Admission as an attorney in at least one jurisdiction with relevant post-qualification experience.
  • Strong corporate, commercial, and transactional experience involving complex partnerships and agreements.
  • Experience advising on complex funding arrangements, external partnerships, or significant business transactions.
  • Demonstrated expertise in data privacy and protection, including data sharing, consent, and personal or regulated data.
  • Ability to interpret unfamiliar legal and regulatory frameworks and develop practical solutions.
  • Strong legal and business judgment, risk assessment, and negotiation skills.
  • Experience advising multiple functions and building relationships with senior stakeholders.
  • Ability to independently manage a varied portfolio, build legal capabilities, and direct external advisors.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills with English fluency.
  • Preferred: experience with data-protection or telecom regulators, MNO data-sharing arrangements, technology-enabled products, multiple jurisdictions, privacy certification, charitable organizations, nonprofit law, or international development.
  • Alignment with GiveDirectly’s values and demonstrated emotional intelligence, problem solving, project management, follow-through, and inclusivity.
  • Ability to work remotely with at least three hours of overlap with an East Africa timezone; approximately 1–2 trips annually.

  • Location-based compensation with a 10% target bonus and annual benefits stipend; U.S. target total compensation is $147,840+, U.K. is £101,090+, and Kenya is $116,908+.
