Description

  • Design and maintain the canonical, source, and process layers of the ontology across organizations, items, contracts, transactions, and workflows.
  • Define rules for record identity and equivalence across different systems and use cases.
  • Create source-to-canonical mappings with documented provenance and validity conditions.
  • Author OWL 2 axioms and validate logical consistency using reasoners and ontology lifecycle tools such as ROBOT and SHACL.
  • Align ontology work with governance practices and domain experts.
  • Direct and evaluate LLM-assisted ontology discovery and enrichment pipelines with human-in-the-loop validation standards.
  • Collaborate with data quality engineers to establish formal feedback loops.
  • Translate ontology design decisions into implementations for graph and relational stores.
  • Specify SPARQL queries and graph schema requirements without introducing semantic loss.
  • Work with internal and external stakeholders to ensure the ontology supports transactional, clinical, and analytical needs.

Requirements

  • 4+ years of experience in knowledge engineering, ontology development, or a closely related formal methods discipline.
  • Experience building and maintaining domain ontologies in Protégé or equivalent, with reasoner-validated consistency.
  • Experience with ROBOT, ODK, or similar tools for ontology lifecycle management, versioning, and release pipelines.
  • Expertise in SPARQL and/or Cypher for querying ontology-aligned data stores.
  • Ability to interpret data profiling results and translate them into formal ontological claims.
  • Experience directing or evaluating LLM-assisted knowledge extraction pipelines with formal validation requirements.
  • Proficiency in Python or similar languages for ontology tooling, pipeline scripting, and data analysis.
  • Experience working in multidisciplinary teams that integrate formal and domain knowledge under operational constraints.
  • Bachelor's or advanced degree in Computer Science, Mathematics, Philosophy, Information Science, or a related hard science discipline (preferred).
  • Familiarity with category theory, CQL/AQL, LinkML, BFO 2.0, OBO Foundry principles, provenance models, and production graph databases such as Stardog or Amazon Neptune (preferred).
