Description

  • Lead Android implementation for member-coach experiences, including onboarding, messaging, scheduling, workouts, progress tracking, health data integration, and video calls.
  • Set technical direction for a multi-module Kotlin Android codebase built with Compose, coroutines, flows, dependency injection, and unidirectional state.
  • Improve module boundaries, data ownership, navigation, and offline behavior as the product evolves.
  • Guide integrations with Wear OS, Health Connect, heart-rate data, sensors, and the Android device lifecycle.
  • Own reliability and performance across startup, responsiveness, media playback, foreground services, background work, real-time calls, and sync.
  • Use telemetry to identify crashes, performance issues, and release risks before members encounter them.
  • Set standards for code quality, testing, observability, and maintainability across the Android team.
  • Lead technical planning, project execution, design discussions, pairing, and code review.
  • Collaborate with product, design, backend, and iOS engineers on a small senior team.
  • Use AI coding tools to accelerate exploration, implementation, testing, and review while validating output before release.

Requirements

  • 8+ years of professional Android engineering experience, including ownership of complex consumer applications.
  • Deep Kotlin expertise and strong experience with Jetpack Compose, coroutines, Flows, dependency injection, and Android lifecycle behavior.
  • Experience leading architecture work in a large or modular Android codebase.
  • Experience shipping and supporting apps through Google Play.
  • Strong understanding of performance, offline state, background execution, media playback, permissions, and device fragmentation.
  • Strong testing habits across unit, integration, UI, and end-to-end layers.
  • Ability to debug across UI, networking, persistence, services, devices, and CI.
  • Experience leading complex projects from planning through launch with product and design partners.
  • Experience operating at lead scope, regardless of title.
  • Experience using AI coding tools and verifying their output.
  • Passion for health, fitness, and thoughtful coaching.
  • Experience building Wear OS apps or working with the Wearable Data Layer (nice to have).
  • Experience with Health Connect, health sensors, or Bluetooth devices (nice to have).
  • Familiarity with HIPAA and other health-product regulations (nice to have).
  • Experience with Media3, CameraX, foreground services, or real-time audio/video (nice to have).
  • Experience designing offline-capable apps with Room, WorkManager, and background sync (nice to have).
  • Experience with fitness, health, coaching, or personalized consumer products (nice to have).
  • Experience evolving a design system in a large Compose application (nice to have).
