Description

  • Define the reference architecture for agent loops, tool execution, state management, recovery, guardrails, permissions, and human handoffs.
  • Design reliable, long-running multi-step workflows that recover from tool, API, and model failures.
  • Own model selection, routing, cost-per-task, and latency budgets across the agent platform.
  • Integrate agents with Kafka, microservices, Postgres, customer APIs, and MCP servers.
  • Establish context-window standards and build shared retrieval, memory, compaction, summarization, caching, and sub-agent components.
  • Diagnose context and agent-quality failures and convert solutions into reusable platform patterns.
  • Build offline and online evaluation systems, including production datasets, graders, regression gates, monitoring, A/B testing, and feedback loops.
  • Connect evaluation metrics to business outcomes such as tracking accuracy, human-free exception resolution, and appointment fill rates.
  • Review agent-team designs and pull requests, maintain architecture documentation and playbooks, and mentor engineers.
  • Partner with Product, Solutions, and Customer Success to turn field failures into platform improvements.

Requirements

  • 10+ years of experience building software or ML systems, including 3+ years working with LLMs.
  • Production experience architecting and operating an LLM agent system with real users, tool calling, multi-step workflows, failure handling, and human escalation.
  • Deep knowledge of encoders, transformers, attention, positional encodings, tokenization, KV cache, and encoder/decoder architectures.
  • Experience training or fine-tuning encoder models such as BERT-family models, sentence embeddings, bi-encoders, or cross-encoder re-rankers.
  • Expertise in context engineering, including token budgets, retrieval, memory, compaction, sub-agents, and context-quality measurement.
  • Experience building agent execution layers with tool dispatch, checkpoints, interruption and recovery, permissions, guardrails, model routing, MCP, structured outputs, and streaming.
  • Hands-on experience building offline and online evaluation systems, including LLM-as-judge calibration, CI regression gates, production scoring, drift monitoring, and shadow deployments.
  • Strong Python skills and ability to read and review Java or TypeScript services.
  • Production experience with AWS or GCP, containers, Kubernetes, and event-driven systems.
  • Preferred: supply-chain or logistics experience; Document AI; voice or email agents; agent security; multiple model families and serving stacks; or relevant publications, talks, or open-source contributions.
