Description

  • Lead the development of early-phase AI systems to enhance user experience and improve AI performance and relevance.
  • Direct Figma’s AI direction in collaboration with software engineers, product managers, and data scientists.
  • Break down open-ended AI problems into engineering strategies using machine learning, data analysis, and experimental design.
  • Provide mentorship and promote best practices in data and AI while fostering a collaborative and inclusive team culture.
  • Help grow the team by improving the hiring process and recruiting AI talent.
  • Collaborate closely with the AI Research team to shape and implement AI experience engineering initiatives.
  • Take AI efforts from inception through implementation and productionization.

Requirements

  • 5+ years of software engineering experience, including 1+ years developing generative AI products.
  • Experience prototyping and identifying new opportunities that led to successful 0→1 projects.
  • Proven experience owning the full lifecycle of early-phase AI development, from model selection through production and maintenance.
  • Experience building product and business understanding to connect modeling and analysis work to business value.
  • Demonstrated expertise in AI indexing, retrieval systems, personalization, and/or natural language processing (preferred).
  • Experience planning a multi-year roadmap with short-term projects aligned to a long-term vision (preferred).
  • Relevant advanced degree such as a Master’s or PhD in Machine Learning, Artificial Intelligence, Statistics, or a related field (preferred).
  • Growth mindset and experience supporting the learning, development, belonging, and impact of peers, including mentoring senior engineers across organizations (preferred).
  • This is a full-time role that can be based in one of Figma’s US hubs or remotely in the United States.
