Description

  • Assist in testing and validating server infrastructure templates for a major operating system upgrade from Ubuntu 22 to Ubuntu 26.
  • Work with Chef to audit, update, and refactor configuration management code for KVM and Kubernetes node deployments.
  • Contribute to a greenfield architecture project by building and documenting experimental self-managed Kubernetes sandboxes using Talos or k0s.
  • Develop and maintain internal tooling, helper scripts, and CI/CD pipeline components to support local development and image building.
  • Participate in team stand-ups, technical grooming, and architecture reviews.
  • Gain exposure to production troubleshooting and post-mortem processes.
  • Work on dedicated sandboxed projects that support production readiness and infrastructure modernization.

Requirements

  • Enrollment in a Computer Science, Information Systems, or equivalent technical program, or a strong portfolio of self-taught systems administration projects.
  • Solid grasp of the Linux command line, file system hierarchy, and basic system configuration.
  • Basic proficiency in at least one scripting or programming language, such as Go, Python, or Bash.
  • Eagerness to read and debug existing code.
  • Conceptual understanding of basic networking protocols, including IP routing, DNS, and SSH.
  • Strong desire to understand why systems break and a preference for automation over manual repetition.
  • Willingness to work in sandbox environments and experiment without fear of breaking things.
  • Exposure to containerization concepts such as Docker or basic Kubernetes resources is a plus.
  • Curiosity about immutable operating systems such as Talos is a plus.
  • Familiarity with Git workflows and version control is a plus.
  • Hands-on experience with AWS, GCP, KVM, or VirtualBox is a plus.
  • Experience with configuration management or provisioning tools such as Chef, Ansible, or Terraform is a plus.
