Description

  • Drive the vision for UI art across Escape Velocity projects by applying the art style and art style guide set by Art Directors.
  • Pitch UI art direction to UX, Art Directors, and the Game Director, then implement strong, practical solutions against the agreed plan.
  • Collaborate with UX Design, Tech Design, and Engineers to align UI art with UX wireframes and engineering constraints.
  • Create and implement design systems, game menus, HUD elements, iconography, UI materials and shaders, and UI animation/motion design.
  • Deliver high-quality UI assets throughout development, from early prototypes to final in-engine implementation.
  • Plan and communicate work effectively, set realistic goals and dependencies, and contribute to shipping product team features on time and to quality.
  • Own the quality and consistency of UI art produced by the team and flag new or emerging design patterns to Art Directors.
  • Work quickly and adaptably in a fast-paced environment and collaborate with the wider UX/UI department to maintain consistency and quality.

Requirements

  • Senior-level experience implementing AAA-quality UI art in modern game engines (e.g., Unreal Engine 5 or comparable).
  • Deep understanding of user interface design within the gaming industry.
  • Experience creating and implementing design systems, menus, HUDs, iconography, UI materials/shaders, and UI animation/motion design.
  • Proven experience delivering UI assets from prototype through final in-engine implementation on shipped projects.
  • Demonstrated ability to collaborate closely with UX designers, Tech Designers, Engineers, Art Directors, and Game Directors.
  • Strong planning and communication skills with the ability to set realistic goals and manage dependencies.
  • Ability to work quickly, be flexible, and operate effectively in ambiguous, fast-paced environments.
  • Accountability for the quality and consistency of UI art and the ability to identify and escalate design issues or opportunities.
  • Comfortable working fully remote and collaborating with distributed teams.
