Description

  • Advise high school students on the college admissions process, including application strategy and school selection.
  • Create academic and extracurricular roadmaps that support students’ interests, leadership growth, and competitiveness.
  • Help students plan meaningful summers through internships, research, competitions, and community service opportunities.
  • Build standardized testing plans and advise on test selection and score improvement strategies.
  • Develop college lists and categorize schools as reach, target, and safety options.
  • Guide students through application materials, including personal statements, activity lists, resumes, recommendation letters, and essays.
  • Review, edit, and refine application materials and use research to strengthen student applications.
  • Strategize around early action, early decision, regular decision, waitlist, and final college choice decisions.
  • Provide financial aid and merit scholarship guidance.
  • Communicate with students and parents, prepare for sessions, log meetings promptly, and maintain ongoing support across multi-year packages.

Requirements

  • Graduate of a top 50 national university.
  • Degree in computer science or deep expertise in the field.
  • Experience as a college counselor for high school students with a track record of acceptances to a top 50 national university.
  • Consistent availability in the afternoons after 3:00 p.m. and/or on weekends.
  • Passion for education and strong teaching ability.
  • Experience with essay writing and essay editing.
  • Exceptional oral and written communication skills.
  • Ability to plan ahead, meet deadlines, and provide dedicated client service.
  • Ability to commit to students for multi-year packages.
  • Preferred: advanced degree such as MD, PhD, MBA, JD, or a master’s degree.
  • Preferred: former admissions officer at a top 50 college.
  • Preferred: experience as an independent college counselor through NACAC, WACAC, IECA, or similar organizations.
