Description

  • Research legal questions across the US, UK and EU, South Africa, Australia, and APAC.
  • Draft and maintain jurisdiction-specific consulting, teaching assistant, statement of work, amendment, and termination agreements.
  • Review and redline counterparty contracts, identifying material terms and risks.
  • Build and maintain a legal register covering matters, deadlines, obligations, renewals, and filings.
  • Scope, brief, and manage external counsel engagements, including costs and turnaround times.
  • Support entity formation, restructuring, and market-entry diligence.
  • Maintain approved legal communication templates and FAQs for instructor-facing teams.
  • Develop systems and processes that enable a small legal function to support a growing company.

Requirements

  • Law degree and 2–4 years of practical legal experience in private practice, in-house, or legal services.
  • Excellent written English and the ability to produce clear, actionable one-page legal memos for non-lawyers.
  • Strong legal research skills, including research in unfamiliar legal systems.
  • Judgment to identify when local counsel is needed and frame questions effectively.
  • Experience drafting and redlining contracts.
  • Thoughtful, verified use of AI legal research tools, including source-level citation checking.
  • Ability to work through ambiguity and turn business questions into precise legal issues.
  • Interest in understanding business operations and commercial context.
  • Experience with cross-border contractor or freelancer engagement models (preferred).
  • Employment or labour law, data protection experience including GDPR or POPIA, bar admission, or experience in a distributed remote-first company (preferred).
