Description

  • Own and evolve the Google Cloud infrastructure, including how it is structured, secured, and scaled.
  • Extend infrastructure-as-code coverage so environment changes are repeatable, reviewable, and safe.
  • Build and mature identity, access, and secrets management with least-privilege access and secret rotation.
  • Maintain an audit-ready security posture, including ISO 27001 certification and client security audits.
  • Own the Kubernetes platform end to end, keeping clusters and workloads current, reliable, and easy to use.
  • Own and improve build and deployment pipelines on self-hosted Buildkite.
  • Improve local tooling, containerisation, and paved-road workflows that increase engineer productivity.
  • Run platform upgrades, patching, DNS, and certificate management with minimal disruption.
  • Improve observability and visibility into cost, health, and performance across environments.
  • Map current infrastructure, security posture, and developer workflows, then deliver a prioritised platform roadmap.

Requirements

  • Deep hands-on experience running production workloads on a major cloud platform, ideally Google Cloud.
  • Production experience operating Kubernetes, from cluster operations to sensible workload patterns.
  • Strong infrastructure-as-code experience, ideally with Terraform.
  • Strong cloud security fundamentals, including identity and access, secrets, and network security.
  • Experience owning CI/CD pipelines and improving build and deployment processes.
  • Comfort writing some Elixir or working in a functional language or Ruby, with a willingness to learn Elixir.
  • Experience setting standards, making architecture decisions independently, and influencing others at a senior level.
  • An enablement-first mindset focused on guard rails and paved roads rather than gates and bottlenecks.
  • Production experience with Elixir, Erlang/OTP, Phoenix, or LiveView, or a background in Ruby is a bonus.
  • Experience maintaining ISO 27001, SOC 2, or similar certifications and handling customer security audits is a bonus.
  • Reliability practices such as service-level objectives and incident management are a bonus.
  • Awareness of cloud cost management is a bonus.
  • Experience mentoring engineers or growing a small team is a bonus.
