Description

  • Develop and implement the organization’s payroll tax strategy and manage the tax reporting function.
  • Review and submit federal, state, and local tax filings, declarations, and extensions.
  • Prepare tax planning reports and estimates of the organization’s tax obligations.
  • Partner with senior management to reduce tax liabilities and improve tax processes.
  • Stay current on tax code changes and ensure ongoing compliance with applicable laws and regulations.
  • Research legal issues, filing positions, and solutions related to local, federal, and international tax laws.
  • Oversee timely and accurate processing of liability payments, tax returns, notices, reconciliations, and related payroll tax activities.
  • Establish and maintain procedures to reduce payroll tax discrepancies and improve accuracy.
  • Lead, coach, and evaluate supervisors and staff, including employee coaching and performance reviews.
  • Perform periodic audits, maintain tax records, and resolve escalated issues with clients or internal departments.

Requirements

  • Experience with payroll tax processes, including liability payments, tax return processing, and W-2/year-end reporting.
  • Strong knowledge of federal, multi-state, and local payroll tax regulations.
  • Intermediate to advanced Excel skills.
  • Working knowledge of payroll software systems used to prepare and process payroll tax requirements.
  • Experience processing tax filings and payments via e-file, mag media, and EFT debit/credit, including conversions.
  • Ability to communicate complex payroll tax information to all levels of the organization and clients.
  • Ability to work long hours under pressure and consistently meet deadlines.
  • Strong time management skills and a results-oriented approach to handling multiple projects or tasks.
  • Ability to interpret and analyze complex data and make independent determinations.
  • Experience maintaining professional payroll tax knowledge through workshops, publications, networking, or professional organizations.
