Description

  • Build the data science function, including its charter, hiring plan, and standards for model development, deployment, monitoring, and retirement.
  • Own fraud and payment risk modelling across transaction risk, chargeback and refund abuse, account takeover, promotional abuse, and agent or merchant anomalies.
  • Set fraud thresholds with fraud and operations teams and manage the tradeoff between prevented losses and customer friction.
  • Develop identity resolution, record linkage, deduplication, match confidence, profile completeness, and unified customer profile capabilities.
  • Build next-best-action and segmentation models for personalised customer communications.
  • Deploy and maintain models in production with cloud and MLOps teams, including monitoring, drift detection, retraining, rollback, and outcome measurement.
  • Develop demand, stock, budget, category, SKU, churn, and lifetime-value forecasting models.
  • Lead experiment design across product and marketing, including hypotheses, minimum detectable effects, decision rules, and unbiased readouts.
  • Establish responsibilities and working boundaries with data engineering and analytics teams.
  • Present actionable, validated decisions grounded in the company’s metric definitions rather than unvalidated analysis.

Requirements

  • 7+ years of data science experience and 2+ years leading or mentoring data scientists.
  • Proven experience deploying models to live production traffic with monitoring and quantified business impact.
  • Deep fraud or risk modelling experience, plus expertise in at least one of identity resolution, forecasting, churn and lifetime value, personalisation, uplift modelling, or causal inference.
  • Strong SQL skills with large transaction and event datasets in a columnar warehouse.
  • Strong Python skills and the ability to write maintainable, runnable production code.
  • Expertise in experimental design, causal inference, and quasi-experimental methods when randomisation is unavailable.
  • Consumer fintech or payments experience, including transactions, funnels, cohorts, and fraud patterns.
  • Ability to align product, engineering, marketing, and commercial stakeholders around a shared problem definition.
  • Experience using AI-assisted workflows while ensuring all shipped outputs are explainable.
  • Experience building a data science function from zero, including initial hiring and deployment processes is preferred.
  • Experience with fraud or payment risk in cash-heavy, chargeback-exposed, or agent-network markets is preferred.
  • Experience with identity graphs, KYC, customer data platforms, MENA or emerging-market data, or Arabic is preferred.
